Dear Stellar Families,
We have successfully completed our first week of 2019 and what a week it was!
On Monday, my friend Charles Shepard, took over as a substitute PE teacher for the day. He is a Master in Martial Arts. (Ascension Martial Arts in San Jose) and he took the kids through some early Tai Chi moves and positions. I heard from most of our students that his time with them was a 100% thumbs up. And THAT is not an easy feat to accomplish. (see pics)
On Tuesday our water got turned off at 10:30.Go to our website http://www.stellaracademy.org/About-Us/News/adventures-in-plumbing and check out my blog of the whole day. I sent out the link on Tuesday, but just in case.... here it is again. (This is a shameless ploy to get more traffic to our website.)
On Wednesday, we started back up our Wednesday Enrichment's. Your child is either in a cooking, yoga/mindfulness exercises, art or ASL class from 12:30 - 1:15. Ask them which one they are participating in this 2nd of 4 rounds.
On Thursday, we officially added a new student to our roster. Nyle will be a first grader in Mrs. Romo's classroom. If you see him, his mom or dad around, please be sure to introduce yourselves and welcome them to our Stellar Family!
On Friday, so far it has been a relatively quiet day. Note that I am typing this at 9:00 am. The day may still unfold into an adventure, it usually does. (Update 1:45 still quiet.)
Walk-a Thon: How are you doing with your Walk-a-Thon pledges? The big day is next Friday! I know, that came up very fast didn't it?!?!?! Remember, your friends and family can pledge by the lap or with a flat rate pledge. Every little bit helps. Please get your final money in to the office by no later than Friday, January 25th so that prizes for most laps and most money earned can be awarded. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS for the event! Please let me know if you can come and help. It would be from noon to 2:30 on that day.
From the Student Council: Starting immediately, we are going to be collecting pet supplies like: food (science diet only), used towels/blankets/flat sheets, peanut butter, soft dog treats, collars/leashes, carriers, toys for dogs and cats, KONG treat dispensers, clumping cat litter, tennis balls and cash (which will be turned into gift cards from a local pet store.) Start sending in your contributions right away. This service project will go through the end of February. Our project will culminate at the Hayward shelter, as field trip, where we will deliver "the goods."
Also from the Student Council: Our next 'crazy day' will be Wednesday, January 23. Wear any hat from home and you will be counted. It has been suggested that we meet in Fellowship Hall at 8:15 in order to get an accurate count.
Parents of 5th - 7th graders: Reminder to turn in the paperwork for Walden West on or before January 31st. They are going to be coming to pick it up that day, and they are also presenting in Mrs. Roberts room at 1:00. All are welcome to attend their presentation - even if your child is still too young, but you want to get a preview of coming attractions.
And finally: We are, again, hosting an Experiencing Dyslexia Simulation on March 1, here at school. I have put the event out on Eventbrite. Here is the link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dyslexic-simulation-experience-the-frustration-first-hand-tickets-53186989718?aff=ebdssbdestsearch . The cost will be $ 25.00 per participant. Please plan on attending and inviting friends and family. There is a limit of 60 participants, so it will have to be first come, first served.
REMINDER: Monday, January 21 is a federal holiday, MLK Day. There will be no school on that day.
