TGIF - (Try Getting In Free)

My weekly Friday message 10/18/19

Dear Stellar Families,

Fall is in full swing. The weather is crisp and the sun is setting ridiculously early (soon to be much earlier...) I am noticing a decided increase in jacket wearing, boots and long pants. Fall is my favorite season, so all of these changes make my smile just a little bit brighter.

This week was also the last enrichment class of this round. Round 2 starts next week!! Ask your student about what they did/learned these last 6 weeks in their first enrichment class.

We are still a few basketball sized pumpkins short of our goal. Large pumpkins at my neighborhood Safeway are $7.99 in case you’re wondering... thanks in advance.

From the Student Council:

Our next Spirit Day is Wednesday, October 23. (that's next week...) The theme is "Character Day." Your student  may come to school dressed as a favorite character BUT their outfit can't involve a lot of props and may only include minimal make up. We don't want the day to be a crazy distraction.

Our school service project is brought to you by our student council, Mrs. Romo, and the Castro Valley Outreach organization. We are "adopting" a family for the holidays. Our family has a mother, father and 2 kids - a 5 year old boy and a 6 year old girl. Their specific list and how to help out will be published here in a future email.

We have new recycling policies initiated by the City of Newark. The big change is that we now have an organics bin for food scraps and food soiled paper goods. Our student council will be debuting our beautiful, new BRIGHT orange recycling team vests next week. They are going to be reminding all of us about what waste goes into which bin: blue, black or green. Wish us luck...

We went to SF MOMA yesterday. I heard through the very active student grape-vine that it was "really cool!!" The MOMA people told us that our students were the best of all the students that had ever visited the museum before. Well done, Team Stellar!! Thanks again to Mindy Rubin (Avery's mom) for organizing. Pictures will be in our yearbook, as I didn't attend the field trip... Unless some of you want to reply all to this email and get some group shots out to our community....??
