REGISTRATION PROCESS

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Stellar Academy! If you need information about the registration process or want to register your child for our upcoming school year, you’ve come to the right place. Stellar Academy for Dyslexics has a proven track record of helping children, who have been identified as having Specific Language Disability (SLD), become accomplished at reading, writing and spelling. The object of our program of structured literacy design is to equip 3rd - 8th grade students with strategies that allow a return to regular public or private school placement. (*2023-2024 = new 5th - 8th grade students only)

 

  • Each student is given a Slingerland® screening test to identify symptoms of dyslexia that will be addressed by the specialized instruction we use - the Slingerland® approach.

  • Records and information regarding the student’s potential needs are required during the evaluation process.

  • Parents meet with Stellar’s Director.

  • Application and Registration Fee are submitted.

  • Each student must attend the Summer Program or receive a minimum of 10 hours of Slingerland® tutoring to confirm our program fits with your child’s needs.

SCHOOL YEAR APPLICATION

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Before you enroll:

  1. Completed Application for Admission with Application Fee = $100.00 (non-refundable).

  2. Copies of previous testing: psycho-educational assessment including tests of achievement and cognitive (I.Q.) assessment, Slingerland® Screening, and any other past testing.

  3. Parent Interview with the Director

  4. Slingerland® Screening. We can recommend private Bay Area Slingerland® screeners and tutors.

  5. Attendance at Stellar Summer Program or 10 hours of Slingerland® tutoring

  6. Student Shadow Days (for those not attending Summer Program)

  7. Offer of Enrollment sent by Stellar in form of Tuition and Fee Agreement.

  8. Submit signed Tuition and Fee Agreement with Registration Fee = $600.00 (non-refundable).

When you start

  1. Submit Remaining Enrollment Paperwork:

    1. Admissions Agreement

    2. Emergency Card

    3. Authorization for Release of Information

    4. Photo Consent

    5. Buildings & Grounds Permission Slip

  2. Read the Student Handbook with your child.

  3. Attend Fall Orientation at the start of the school year (or with Office Manager if enrolling late fall)

  4. Bring in classroom supplies from student's homeroom teacher's list .

Stellar Academy offers Virtual Tours on the first Thursday of each month, promptly at 8:45 a.m.  We begin with an overview of our program and description of what we'll see in the classrooms. Individual questions will be answered and then we'll observe in each of our classrooms for approximately 10-15 minutes. Between each  classroom visit is another opportunity to discuss any questions the lessons from the classrooms may generate for you. This is a great way to see how we deliver language arts instruction. Expect the tour to take just a little over an hour. Please contact us if you would like to participate.

 

TUTORING PROGRAMS

Stellar Academy currently refers families to local Slingerland® Trained Screeners & Tutors. Call the school office for more information.

  • Stellar Academy referred Slingerland® Screenings (i.e. dyslexia testing) and Slingerland tutoring are offered by various practitioners across the Bay Area and including Reno, NV.  

  • In-House Tutoring – Occasionally, one-on-one pull-out tutoring during the school day is necessary for students enrolled at Stellar (typically when first starting and unable to participate in the Summer Program). The additional fee is $85.00 per hour.

Fees

  • Non-refundable registration fee (due with application): $600.00

Tuition

  • Tuition is $28,900.00

  • All tuition fees may be paid by one of  two options:

    • Paid in full by August 24, 2023 ($1,000.00 discount will be applied)

    • 10 monthly payments due the 1st of every month from September through June.

Additional Services

  • Extended Daycare provides a safe and fun environment for Stellar students until 6:00 p.m.

  • In-House Tutoring – Occasionally, one-on-one pull-out tutoring during the school day is necessary for students enrolled at Stellar. The additional fee is $85.00 per hour.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Wilcoxen Financial Aid Fund

Thanks to the generous support of the Wilcoxen family, we award partial tuition scholarships to at least two full-time Stellar students each year. The Wilcoxen Family faithfully funds this aid package in memory of their son, Jeremy. If you are interested in applying, please complete the form linked on the bottom of this page, and return it to our office. We announce awards for the upcoming school year in August.
