SLINGERLAND APPROACH

SLINGERLAND APPROACH

At Stellar, we exclusively use the Slingerland® approach to literacy, because it works! This methodology is a simultaneous, multi-sensory, structured approach for teaching language arts to dyslexic students in the classroom.

Slingerland® is an internationally recognized teaching method for students with dyslexia. Developed in 1977 by Beth Slingerland, this approach has helped millions of children (worldwide) overcome the challenges of dyslexia.

Why Slingerland?

  • Simultaneous, multisensory, structured approach

  • Teaching language arts to dyslexic students in the classroom

  • Builds on smallest unit of language–the letter– using sight and sound

  • Trains students to retain information and apply knowledge in a functional way

  • Accreditated by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) and the International Dyslexia Association (IDA)

WHY SLINGERLAND® WORKS

MSL APPROACH

Research has shown the effectiveness of the Slingerland® Multisensory Structured Language Approach (MSL) in helping children and adults with specific language differences learn how to read, spell and write.

BUILDING ON THE LETTER

The Slingerland® approach starts with the smallest unit of language, the letter, and builds upon the concepts of its sight and sound until students are reading and writing sentences, paragraphs, and books.

CLASSROOM SUCCESS

The Slingerland® Approach is a supportive instructional program that encourages academic competence, effective work habits and self-discipline. It can be used in any classroom setting with any material. Read More
